Writing Practices

Travelog
February 2021
This paper is from an applied writing course for my Writing Practices minor. This paper was written for a Topics in Writing class in the fall quarter of 2020. The reason why I chose to include this piece is because it is a very casual read. In this class, we focused on writing outside of academic settings. This included reviews, travelogues, and how-to’s. This travelogue is about the small town in Mexico that my grandparents are from, and it is written for potential visitors. The assignment required us to write for an audience that might visit this place, and we had the creative freedom to choose whichever place we wanted. This essay shows my ability as a writer to write in different genres for different audiences.

Anthropology Midterm
April 2023
This paper is for my anthropology class, which was a part of the research part of my writing practices minor. In this midterm, I had to use a system known as the Elliot Matrix to classify ancient artifacts. We had the option to analyze a sword or a brooch, and I chose the brooch. This midterm is more like a lab write-up, and shows my ability as a writer to conduct research.

Creative Non-fiction
April 2023
This paper is for my theories of writing class. This assignment was about writing a non-fiction piece that was also creative. As someone who only writes in academic settings, this was a difficult assignment.
